Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been at the center of some of the most important debate of our times, and education has not escaped its impact. More than being merely a technological development, AI involves profound educational transformations on what is taught, how it is taught, what will be the skills of the future, and the learning experience as a whole. This issue of Diálogos sobre Educación will have as its thematic axis the many impacts that AI is having on the educational environment. This is an invitation to delve into the new possibilities offered by AI, such as automating mechanical tasks, making evaluations easier, becoming a tool for study or provide a more personalized learning experience. However, it is also crucial to consider the problems that AI might bring about, such as the lack of specialized knowledge about its uses, new forms of academic dishonesty, biases, misinformation, excessive reliance on it, and even the deepening of inequality. Even though AI is a disruptive technology that is already transforming our environment, there is still little research done about it. Therefore, it is essential to conduct an open and rigorous analysis of the impact of AI on education.
Although this is not an exhaustive or excluding list, the following are some possible lines of research for this issue of Diálogos sobre Educación:
- Uses of AI in personalized learning
- Ethics and Artificial Intelligence
- Training programs to take advantage of AI
- Assessing the challenges posed by AI
- Emerging educational research techniques using AI
- Large models of language and literacy teaching
- Challenges and opportunities of AI in Latin America
